Model Flashcards

Your Ally's brain is a model — and different models are different brains. Same Ally, wrong model, and everything can feel off. These flashcards are the cheat sheet: what each model is good at, when to switch, and how to set it. Flip a card to see the details.

Recommended

DeepSeek V4 Pro

The workhorse — deep thinking, big jobs

V4 Pro is the default brain for most Allies. It's the one that handles your big, messy, multi-step work: strategy, writing, analysis, anything that needs to actually think.

Great at

  • Long, complex tasks that need real reasoning
  • Drafting, editing, and heavy writing
  • Research and analysis with lots of moving parts
  • Anything where a wrong shortcut would cost you

Not for

Quick one-liners — it's slower and heavier than it needs to be for small stuff.

How to set it

Type /model in your Ally's chat and pick deepseek-v4-pro. Your Ally can also switch for you — just ask.

💡 Turn reasoning up (high or xhigh) for the hard stuff, and keep it off for casual chat.

Fast & light

DeepSeek V4 Flash

The sprinter — fast, cheap, high volume

V4 Flash is the speed pick. Same Ally, lighter brain: answers in a blink, costs pennies, and never rambles. Perfect for quick tasks and daily volume.

Great at

  • Fast answers and quick drafts
  • High-volume daily work — inboxes, lists, small tasks
  • Anything where brevity beats brilliance
  • Keeping conversations snappy and to the point

Not for

Deep strategic thinking. If a task needs real reasoning, it'll tell you — or you'll feel it.

How to set it

Type /model in your Ally's chat and pick deepseek-v4-flash. Great default for everyday chatter.

💡 If your Ally ever feels long-winded or slow, this is the switch — many Allies run on Flash as their day-to-day brain.

Second provider

OpenAI GPT

The familiar one — ChatGPT's brain

GPT is the brain behind ChatGPT — the one you've probably heard of. If you already have an OpenAI account, your Ally can run on it instead. Same Ally, different flavor.

Great at

  • A familiar, polished conversational style
  • Strong general-purpose reasoning
  • Creative work and natural-sounding writing
  • People who already live in the OpenAI world

Not for

Nothing major — it's a great all-rounder. It just costs more per message than DeepSeek.

How to set it

Type /model and pick the GPT option, or ask your Ally to switch. You'll need an OpenAI API key (the same one you'd use for ChatGPT-style apps).

💡 The slash commands differ per provider — your Ally can walk you through the OpenAI set any time.

Feels off? The three checks

If your Ally starts acting dumber, different, or robotic, check these in order — from our When Your Ally Acts Weird guide:

  1. What model is it on? Type /model and look — a different model is a different brain.
  2. Is reasoning on? Off = fast but shallow.
  3. What level? Low reasoning is a different experience than max.
